The writing is on the wall ...

"Men Are Important!!!"

This site is one of the ways in which The Men's Project (an initiative within Parents Advice Centre, Northern Ireland) is seeking to meet its aim of tackling the issues facing local men and boys.

The site is divided into eight core parts and these, in turn, are subdivided. To help you navigate to the information that you require, here is a brief map of the site:

About Us - describes what The Men's Project is and what it seeks to do. This section includes access to information on the Kick Start initiative (an action learning training project to support work with fathers) and The Male Link (a cross-border, cross-community network of people interested in men's work and issues which was set-up by The Men's Project, but no longer exists).

Issues - provides an overview of a range of issues facing local men. Some of these have been identified through our contact with groups/individuals across the north of Ireland. Others come from relevant reports and conference papers. PowerPoints and briefing papers from the expert presenters at the "Nowhere Man" Men's Health Seminar in 2008 are in this section.

Facts - presents five statistical fact sheets on Men in Northern Ireland (MINI). These were collated by the ARK team within Queen's University Belfast and the University of Ulster, and are useful for general research purposes.

Men's Work Directory - lists other groups/individuals who have an interest in work with men in the north of Ireland. This can be used to find support and allies.

Resources - gives an overview of the books/resources in The Men's Project mini-library and collates links to other relevant web sites. This section also gives access to some of the materials developed by ourselves - including the "Men and Babies" manual, "My Dad is the Bestest Dad" storybook, the "Our Big Adventure Scrapbook", back issues of Emale Matters newsletters, and factsheets on Paternity Leave/Pay and Parental Responsibility. We hope that this will help to get you started or to develop your work further.

Images - provides a range of black and white photographs from an exhibition entitled: "Images of Men". This was commissioned by The Men's Project and undertaken by young men associated with the Southern Education and Library Board Youth Service in Craigavon.

News - hosts a communal Bulletin Board for announcing up-and-coming events or requesting help or publicising a new initiative ... It is open to anyone working in this field.

Contact Us - gives the contact details of The Men's Project.
